Gallery features art from around the world

By KEISHA YOUNG Phoenix Staff Writer VALLEY FORGE — When gallery President Karen Godwin began Fine Art Liaisons in January 2000, she saw the potential of bringing her love for art into the homes and hearts of residents in the area.

Fine Art Liaisons, a gallery, hidden away in the Commons of Valley Forge, features a variety of national and internationally collected artists. With a background in art conservation and art history, Godwin graduated from the University of Delaware and pursued her career at an art gallery and auction house: Years later she decided to branch out on her own and developed Fine Arts Liaisons.

“It (Valley’ Forge area) was a good area with plenty of development” said Godwin. She also works with interior designers and art shows to help owners create the perfect look for their home.

Godwin tries to offer buyers everything from local to international pieces, some starting as low as $35 on up to a piece she recently sold for $65,000.

“Some (artwork) that we go with are Iocal, some are international. We have Yuri Gorbachev, Miguel Gorbachev’s cousin, who is also a part of the Clinton’s personal collection and the Louvre’s,” said Godwin. “He is not shown anywhere else, in Pennsylvania or the Philadelphia area. We try to bring art that is not well accessed here so people have something different when they come here.”

Godwin also has The Country Suite, two exclusive pieces known as “Stormy Sunday and Prairie View” and “Sampling the Melons” by the second most reproduced artist next to Picasso, Jane Wooster Scott.

Godwin also offers framing for all artwork either purchased or brought in for custom framing.

“Anybody can come in and get custom framing,” said Godwin. “All of our custom framing is reasonable compared to other framing shops.”

Helping Godwin is gallery assistant Mary Saring, of Phoenixville. Saring is a senior at Phoenixville Area High School. She started working at the gallery part time and has since developed a deeper passion for art. Saring said she values the experience she is gaining with Godwin and knows it will be helpful when she becomes an art major in college.

Fine Arts Liaison is also active in the community. Godwin tries to become involved with area organizations including donating time every Tuesday with Phoenixville Area Art Goes to School.

In the past she has sponsored a jazz night, among other events, with the intent of introducing people to art. Fine Arts Liaisons offers corporate and residential art consulting, original oils, serigraphs and limited editions, custom framing, delivery and installation, flexible financing, designer and referral incentives, portraiture and commissions, gift certificates, fundraising events, silent auctions, and bridal registry and house warming packages.

Fine Arts Liaisons is located in the Commons at Valley. Forge, Suite 66, Valley Forge. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call (610) 983-3733. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday 1 to 4 p.m. Hours are also available by appointment.
